Northland Audiology & Hearing Services is expanding to Cordova, Alaska. Southeast Alaska’s premier hearing care provider will now be providing high-quality hearing healthcare for people in the Cordova community starting in January 2020. Northland Audiology & Hearing Services, which has been providing hearing healthcare to Southeast Alaskans since 1993, currently has an office in Juneau, as well as travel clinics in Craig, Haines, Ketchikan, Petersburg, Sitka, and Wrangell.
“Prior to us offering services in Cordova, residents there had to travel to Juneau or Anchorage to receive care. We know it’s critical for people to have healthcare services close to home. It saves time and money, and oftentimes is the key factor in whether a patient gets the treatment they need, rather than putting it off for a more convenient time,” says Kaia Rongstad, co-owner of Northland Audiology & Hearing Services.
Audiologist Mary Owen will be leading the Cordova clinic, providing diagnostic hearing evaluations for people of all ages, employment/OSHA screenings, hearing loss counseling, treatment plans and management support, hearing aid fittings, maintenance and servicing, and custom hearing protection, including earmolds and swimplugs. Dr. Owen has worked throughout Colorado, rural Alaska and most recently at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, where she specialized in pediatric and adult diagnostic audiology. In addition, Dr. Owen has a strong background in noise-induced hearing loss, tinnitus, and hearing loss prevention.
The Cordova clinic will be conveniently located at Cordova Community Medical Center. Dr. Owen will hold clinic hours every five weeks, over a two-day period and will adjust accordingly based on the needs of the community.
“To be able to come to a community and provide a service that has been lacking for so long is very fulfilling. I’m looking forward to creating connections and helping people hear better,” says Dr. Owen.
When it comes to treating and diagnosing hearing loss the team at Northland Audiology & Hearing Services understands that no two cases are alike. They take the time to understand how each patient lives, what their personal hearing needs are, and to better understand their hearing goals in order to craft a more personalized and comprehensive solution.
“We are definitely not a one size fits all approach. Every case is unique and thus every treatment is unique. We have the honor of witnessing restored hearing everyday and with it comes a rebirth of quality of life. It’s the best job in the world,” adds Rongstad.
